Engineered for use with active heated humidification systems in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), this Single Heated-Wire (SHW) breathing circuit provides temperature-regulated gas delivery for critically ill neonates and low-birth-weight infants. The inspiratory limb is embedded with an internal electrical heating wire that interfaces directly with standard servo-controlled humidifiers to maintain optimal gas temperature throughout its length. By preventing the inspired gas from cooling along the tube, the system eliminates condensation ("rainout") in the inspiratory line, ensuring the infant receives fully saturated, body-temperature moisture without liquid pooling that could cause airway flooding or pressure fluctuations. Featuring small-bore (10 mm / 12 mm) tubing with ultra-low internal compliance and minimal dead space, it guarantees accurate, loss-free delivery of microscopic tidal volumes. Built with standard neonatal connectors and flexible, lightweight materials, this chamber-free configuration allows clinical staff to pair it with existing or preferred humidification chambers across a variety of neonatal ventilator platforms.
