BANE CIRCUIT

The Bain circuit is a specialized coaxial modification of the classic Mapleson D breathing system, widely utilized in operating theaters, surgical suites, and emergency transfer setups for controlled or spontaneous anesthesia delivery. Featuring a tube-within-a-tube configuration, the narrow internal conduit delivers fresh, dry anesthetic gases directly to the patient’s airway, while the outer corrugated tube channels expired gases away toward the scavenging interface or an adjustable pressure-limiting (APL / "pop-off") valve. This design creates a natural thermal exchange where warm expired gases gently preheat the cool incoming fresh gas, helping conserve the patient's body temperature and respiratory tract moisture during prolonged surgery. The circuit incorporates a compliant antistatic reservoir bag for manual ventilation and visual monitoring of spontaneous respiratory excursions. Constructed from medical-grade, low-compliance polymers, its lightweight build significantly reduces mechanical torque and drag on the endotracheal tube or laryngeal mask airway (LMA), minimizing accidental extubation risks while providing smooth, low-resistance gas delivery.
